TOP RESTAURANT AND HOTEL IN BURUNDI_PART 1
I’ve been here for over a year now, so I have tried almost all the restaurants and hotels in Burundi. Today I’m going to share with you a few places near Lake Tanganyika. I mentioned it as a “beach” in the title because in Burundi, people call this lake “Tanganyika Beach”. This is the second-largest by volume fresh-water lake in the world, divided among four countries – Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Zambia in Africa.
This is my review of the 10 closest restaurants by distance to the capital center along Lake Tanganyika shores, on Chaussee D’Uvira street, Bujumbura.
Saga Beach
Saga is a beach restaurant that offers a slightly cheaper menu compared to other similar places. Saga, to me, is a perfect place to hang out with a group of friends, grill fresh fish on the beach and play music all night long.
Saga is dormant and quiet on weekdays, but usually lively and packed full on weekends with young customers playing sports, and singing and dancing on the beach.
The long stretch of the clear and white sand is an ideal place to walk, take in some air and relax. Saga beach’s atmosphere is indeed serene and tranquil, and is an escape from the crowded city.
Bora Bora beach Club
Bora Bora is also a hangout destination for youngsters with a swimming pool, live music performances and DJs every weekend. On the beach of Bora Bora, there is a boat service for lake tours at $10 per tour.
I think spending time on the beach, people watching and enjoying a Mukeke with a Heneiken is quite interesting enough, and you don’t need to spend $10 on the boat tour. Food and drinks here are also at an affordable price, starting from $3.
Hotel Club Du Lac
This is a large and luxurious hotel in Burundi on the banks of Lake Tanganyika.
The hotel offers various services and spacious, elegant accommodation with a limited number of rooms available (close to 30 rooms). The rooms offer amazing views of the beach, the swimming pool and the inner garden. Among all, my favourite is the swimming pool with all levels of depths for tall to short guests, or for both of those who know and do not know how to swim…hihi!! There is also a swimming pool for children. Besides that, the water is clear, the smell of chlorine is very subtle and it is built in a semi-olympic style with lines for people that want to practice swimming. How awesome!
Food and drink is quite okay. Pricing starts from $5 for a pot of African tea and $7 for a dish. Room rate starts from $60.
The pool bar is only 50 steps by the pool, where you can enjoy a romantic view in a pleasant and breezy setting around the pool.

Royal Palm Resort
Address: Chaussee d Uvira, Bujumbura, Burundi, on the same bank side with Hotel Club Du Lac, but closer to the Congo border. Royal Palm offers a private and quiet atmosphere. Their rooms are detached small huts with gardens and surrounded by trees. The best part of Royal Palm resort is their cozy and decadent restaurant. There are two indoor areas looking out to the sea view.
Room rate: from $100; Food and drink: from $10.
Genny’s Beach
Among restaurants on the banks of Tanganyika, Genny’s Beach enjoys the benefit of having both a beach and a garden. The garden is surrounded by walls to stop strong winds, which makes it an ideal place for you to sit down and enjoy the view peacefully, without worrying about having your hair blown everywhere by the wind.
Genny’s drink menu starts from $2, and $8 for food.
